My EDM310 Reflection video

This is my final video for EDM310. this has been a awesome semester and will miss this once the semester is over.

Final PLN Summery

EDM310 this semester has been hard and difficult, but It would have been much harder without my PLN network. This information came from teachers, web search engines, and plan old brain power. This information was very important for me, because without it I would not have understood the scope of thinking that we had to use in class. For any questions or request I needed I would rely on Google, Google Squared and Twitter. These provided a wealth of information that I can call up on at anytime in the future. I never even knew about Google Squared before this class and know I have a way to analyze more than four items at a time depending on what I need. You Tube became an important source too for videos and topics that I was curious about. With all the videos on that site it's hard not to rely on it. I also learned how to use twitter. With this was able to tweet specific groups of people or individuals about any topic that I could think of. The abilities of Evernote was very handy in typing up notes that I would need later on. Evernote not only helped me in EDM310, but in all my other classes as well.

The most important learn tool for me came from reading the blogs of fellow teachers. These individuals took the time out to write down their ideas and share it with the world. This spreading of ideas is what the internet was made for. The topics they covered will also be of great help to me when I become a teacher. Some of the teachers and educators I have come to rely on are Sir ken Robinson, Karl Fish, Dr. Mcleod, Randy Pousch, Professor Stephen Heppell. I also loved the videos of sugata Mitra. It's amazing the work Mr. Mitra has done to further the advance of technology to children around the world. Ted Talks, Neil Tyson The Smart Teachers, and Danah Boyd to round them off.

I would like to thank all the teachers, educators and Dr. Strange for exposing us to these wonderful ideas. With out caring individuals like these teachers or educators our education systems would be very different. This learning experience will continue with me long after I leave EDM310 and the information I have learned will go with me all the days of my life.

Summary post for CFT #4

This was a pleasure to be able to read the posts from arvind grover or 21 apples as he likes to be called. The two post I commented on was the article "Bullying" has little resonance with teenagers, and the second article was "Social media revolution 2" and was inspired by the You Tube Video of Did you know 2.0. The author was a very enciteful individual having grown up in Western Pennsylvania.

The first article I read was done by Danah Boyd and was about the troubles that teenagers go through. This article mainly stated how teenagers do not see picking on each other as bullying. She also stated that the kids do this as a way to seek attention and stir up drama. She goes on to say how teenagers tell her, that what they do is normal and that this is going on in their own home environments. She belives that until young people stop getting praise for negative acts of social validation little will change concerning this behavior.

I thought this was a very lovely article and I had never thought of bullying as a way to get attention. Now all the things I saw in high school begin to make much more sense. I would like to thank Mr. grover for showing us this enciteful article on a critical issue that is facing teenagers today.

The last video was a basic remake of the You Tube video "Did You Know 2.0" and covered things from Face Book topping Google for traffic on the internet every week to if Face Book was a country it would be the worlds third largest. Man that is insane when I sit back and think about it. This video also stated that You Tube is the worlds second largest search engine that's crazy. After watching this video I was even more impressed with the technology that we are doing and working with in EDM310. This use of the social internet will be the most important thing that we as teachers will do. We must also remember that this is not only for us, but for the children that will depend on us for this information. This work has been fun and I have enjoyed commenting on all these teachers and I would like to thank Dr. Strange for the wonderful articles and videos that he has shown us over this fall 2010 semester.

Project 16: The final project.....

Yasmine my name is Phillip and I too have an allergy, but mine is to peanuts.  Mine just started about a year ago and boy does it bite.  I would eat peanuts all the time and I loved them very much.  Now I have to be very careful about what I eat, and I too must read labels when I go grocery shopping.  I know how you feel and it is not very fun not being able to enjoy the foods that you love.  I too wish that more people would quit using sugar substitutes and instead try using sugar or even better do without. I totally agree with you and applaud you for wanting to write the first lady of our United States.  You are a very intelligent young lady and I wish you the best in your life.  Just encase you need it the address for the White House is:

Comment For Kids final Summary

This has been a lovely opportunity for me to comment on all my childrens blogs this semester.  The final three children that I comment on were Cierra, Rocio, and Ashyln.  These children blogged on issues such as the treatment of the Native Americans, the learning of a first Wordle, and teaching us about a town that is named after Columbus's mother.  All of these children posted interesting topics and the grammar was also very good.  The first child described the mistreatment of the Native Americans a topic which is close to my heart since my wife is a Native American.  I agreed very much with this child and with the wrong doings the Europeans put the Indians through.  The second child done a Wordle for the first time and this was also a very nice Wordle.  The childs choice of colors for their Wordel was also very colorful and lively.  The last child explained how a city in the United States was named after Columbus's mother.  I never knew this and was extremely fascinated by this fact. 

I love the blogging and rewards that come from blogging, which EDM310 has introduced me to.  The children who i've commented on will look forward to these comments and remember them as long as they are blogging.  It has been a pleasure to comment on these childrens blogs and I will miss this once I leave EDM310.  This just lets me know how interconnected we are in our small world today.  Also we as teachers do have the POWER to change a childs life for the better.  All it takes is love and patience.

Additional Assignment Number 5

These blogs from Mr. Spencer are always a hoot to read due to the interesting thinking on his part.  :-)  He covers ideas that correspond to ways that children are being taught in classes today.  Teachers need to remember that children learn not from concrete ideas, but from ideas that challenge us and empower us.  Also teachers need to remember that children do not think at a pen level and tend to think as a pencil.  This being because children are always changing (feelings, emotions, and their perceptions of the world.) each and every day.  This is a normal process and should be used to get the children to think in a looser manner concerning their education.  Children should also never be blamed for things that they attempt to do.  Teachers tend to set high standards and get upset when students can't make those standards.  If teachers would learn to embrace children's feelings and strengths our children would perform much better.  Also we must remember that all technology will not be helpful as Mr. Spencer was talking about and we must teach from technologies that will both be informative, comprehensive, and fun.  We owe it to our children to do the best that we can at our teaching jobs, and must remember that we are also a major influence on their lives.

Blog Post Number 13

For this blog I went to the ALEX Teacher Created and Thinkfinity Resources website.  alex.state.al.us/index.php This place was well constructed and laid out.  The website was divided into eight sections were teachers can get information on any number of subjects that range from (Personal Workshops, Creating lesson plans, searching the web, and Professional learning tools.)  All this information at the hands of a teacher is very important for us as educators.  The reason being we will always have access to the information we need to construct our lesson plans and also search the web for additional information.  This way we can give our children the best education that we possibly can.  Also this is a gateway to more information on projects, events, and lesson ideas for us from the ALEXville section of the workshop.  This technology is the way that we as teachers will use to construct our lessons and ideas in the near future and personally, I cannot wait till I can take advantage of it.

I love the course of study section because this area will give us access to examples of classroom lessons and websites on everything from Math, Science, History, and Foreign Languages.  This will not only save us time and energy, but will enable us to give our children a more knowledgeable and well rounded educational opportunity.  This web site used in conjunction with blogging could really help our children learn more from teachers.  This information would also work excellent at supplementing our classroom material that is mandated by the state.  This is just one of eight great sections that are geared toward teachers expanding their knowledge and understanding out of college.  The last thing I would like to point out is the web resource section of the ALEX website that gives information on teachers, administrators, and student web sources.  This information will be useful for finding peer to peer information, professional development information, and student based ESL for English as a second language students.  I will use this information before I even graduate college and will highly recommend that all teachers use this wonderful resource tool that is at our disposal.

Blog Post number 12

This blog post will be due on the 1st of December 2010. 



On this post the class will post a blog concerning the current use of technology and how it impacts our children's educational process.  Also give two examples of how technology could be used in schools.  Write at least two paragraphs and NOT four sentences for this post.



The technology being used by our schools right now is good, but it could be better.  The reason for this is, that we do not have enough technology to fully immerse our children into it right now.  Schools must also get the funding so they can get more computers for classes and also begin to get more ITouches and begin to use these as portable encyclopedias.  Children today learn more with technology than with the old fashion paper and pencil.  Children our more versed and comfortable with technology than ever before and it is also a very important social factor in growing up.  In this I mean they have Twitter, Face Book, and My Space just to name a few.  Children in today's schools learn from the Smart Boards that are in our classrooms, but even these fail to include the most basic function of schooling which is involvement.  The children look at the board, but there is very very little interaction from the students.  Also the state mandated curriculum makes it very difficult, but not impossible for teachers to let students sprout off on their own and apply what is being taught in class to real world issues.

Our technology also needs to be used to help our children and until we have the computers, programs, and accessories to compliment what is being taught in the classroom our children's education will only suffer.  The internet is a wealth of information for students to use and also we have the ability to interconnect with people we never dreamed of with the use of blogging.  This will only help our children in their education, so why do the state education systems not embrace technology?  There are some people who would say the internet is bad and only good for nothing.  Too these individuals I say YOU are wrong and here is some reasons to support my theory.  We as educators watch what our children do each and every day.  Being a teacher is a full time job and one that is not to be taken lightly.  Also technology has the ability to be controlled, so only specific sites and data can be seen.   Two the information from blogging and the internet will only reinforce what is being taught in the classroom.  And finally if we let the children have a more active role in the use of technology instead of a passive role they would learn much better and keep higher grades in the long run.

Progress report for Project #16

Me and my class mate Prent Davis will be doing this project together. We are thing about doing a puppet show either with socks or stuffed animals about not being late on EDM310 projects. Our working title so far is: "The best excuse ever given."
This will consist of a puppet who comes up with the greatest excuse ever given to Dr Strange for being late on an EDM310 assignment. What we have come up with so far is: The student gets abducted by aliens who then take him to their version of the German beer festival known as Oktober fest. Finally the aliens drop the student off at South Alabama 10 minutes before his project is due. This will probably be a video and will be around ten minutes or less. We are also thinking about putting in some drawings of the situation the student goes through in the video also. Any concerns or ideas please post and let me know thanks.

Phillip's Project 6 summery

On this Summery of my project 6 questionnaire I was very shocked by what I found in return. I was hoping people were more educated about what games they let their children play, but most people didn't know very much about games and/or the rating system on the box. I sent out this questionnaire on gaming's impact on America's children. Out of 18 returns 17 people stated that gaming has greatly influenced our children today. The next question was "How many TV based gaming consoles are on the market today?" The correct answer was 3 the XBox360, the PlayStation 3, and Nintendo Wii. Six people said 6. Seven people said 5. Four people said the correct number which is 3 systems. And one person said 1 system. The games that most people like to play by genre are: 4 people said role playing. Six people said they liked racing games. Four people said they like to play games in the other category. Three people play fighting games. And 1 person plays educational games.

I was also curious as to see how much money per year people would spend on video games and here is the results. 12 people said that they spend less than $50 per year on games for systems. "This shocked me, for I would have thought people would have spent more money than that on video games." 4 said they spend more than $50, and 2 people said they spend more than $100 dollars per year on games. The Next question in the lineup was "How many hours a day do you play TV based gaming consoles." 17 people said they play games more than 2 hours a day and 1 person said they play for more than 4 hour per day. "I guessed most people would have answered around four or more hours per day, so I was astonished when they were less than that." I also asked a question that went "If your child wanted a bloody and violent game would you still buy that game knowing your child should not have it?" 17 people said they would not buy it and 1 person said that they would. "I guess that one person doesn't care for their child's well being that much!"

On the back of every video game box for any system you have a code that goes something like this: (Early Childhood, Everyone, Everyone 10+, Teen, Mature 17+, Adult 18+.) This is put there by the entertainment Software Rating Board. The ESRB labels the games according to the content in the game. For more information here is the ESRB website http://www.esrb.org.  Out of 18 people 1 said they don't know don't care! 11 said they didn't know what the initials of ESRB stood for and 5 people knew what the initials stood for. "This is very scary that these people will be buying games for their children one day and they do not even know how to pick the right game for their child." The next question in the lineup was what games are younger children playing today? And the responses were 4 people said role playing. 1 said violent games and 12 people said sport games.

An interesting question I asked was "How often do children play games?" 8 people said that children play between 3-5 hours a day!!!! I could not believe that response when i seen it, but it does shed some light on why children have difficulties in doing school work. How can they do school work when children are tied to a TV screen for up to 5 hours a day? the last question I asked was "Do you think video games are a cause of divorce and separation of couples in the United States?" 13 people said yes and 5 people said no.

In conclusion I learned that most people do not take the time to see if something is good for them or their child. The child says I want it and then the parents buy it for them. The time also that children spend on video games is crazy and should be better controlled by their parents. This inability to monitor children's time on video games could account for the lack of attention and poor grades that most children in school have. Also parents need to be more proactive in what and how their children are doing, especially when it comes to video games. Until parents can make children do more work and less games it will always hamper the child's ability to effectively learn.

Summary comments for kids 3-7

The students I had this time around were Colin,Lisa,Caleb,Hayden, and Friendship. these were some of the brightest children that I have seen lately. I enjoyed being able to comment on their blogs. The blogs ranged from a description of Australia to the USS Alabama, to the wonderful love of a boy for his Oscar fish. These blogs like most children's blogs were between 3-5 sentences except for Lisa's blog which covered a whole page and most of the page was on Australia's Idol. I also got to comment on the Anti Aircraft guns on the USS Alabama and this picture that was done was very beautiful and at the same time somber.
The first two children in my summary are as follows: Colin told us a mysterious story in a mysterious voice and he done a very good job. The second was a story of a girls dream to be a singer and her wanting to participate in Australia's version of American Idol. Friendship also took the time out of her busy day to blog me back ten facts on Australia. The summary of the next three children are: for post number 5 I told my child that I, like him also had two Jack Russel dogs. We are both in very big family's and told him of my 9in long Oscar I had as a child growing up. Number 6 child learned that I liked the Atlanta Braves and that I, like him also loved mozzarella sticks. I also told him pizza with sausage and pepperoni is my favorite food and I am married to my wife of nine years Jess. Child number 7
done hers on the guns of the USS Alabama and hers was very breathtaking. She had the water and the cold steel Grey of the guns contrasting each other and it was beautiful. I told her that she needed to post more pictures of the Alabama if she had them for they were gorgeous. I though it was very nice of this child to want to post a picture of the battleship on her blog for all to see and admire. These were great children I had the chance to comment on and I thank Dr. Strange and the children's school's for giving me this fantastic opportunity to comment on the children's work. Phillips EDM310 Blog Post Numb. 11

This was by far the most enjoyable video I have seen to date. Thanks to Dr. Strange for finding this video and posting it for us to watch. This is the right age for kids to be learning this new technological information. If we can catch children when they are still young (b/t grades k-6) we would have a much better chance of fully integrating our children into this new technological age. I applaud Mrs. Cassidy for introducing blogging, skype, and videos to her children. This is the best way for us to go about getting our children ready for their future.
I believe that if we give our children a chance to work with technology they will run with it places we never could have imagined. This is our new learning environment of the future, so we had better get ready for the change. When I get my classroom I will definitely be using this technology to open my children's eyes to the world around them. Also children's minds are growing very rapidly during these early school years and we as educators must be ready to capitalize on that fact and nudge our children into this new technology. We also cannot have any reservations about what we are doing and must also remember that we are the starting point for our children's future. Not only do they depend on us, but our own futures depend on it.

Mrs. Kathys SKYPE interview was very interesting and informative. As I have stated in the past getting kids to this kind of technology is very important at the early developmental years of children. Mrs. Kathy has done that and ran that ball to the goal line. I was very impressed with the video her children made and this shows the love for her children and the way that she teaches them. Her approach to teaching is slow, but gets the children into the technological world of today. Some children may do this at home, but most probably didn't know about blogging, video talking, and twittering until Mrs Kathy showed them.

I would use all the techniques that she has covered. The reason being why would you only teach somebody about half the world? That would not be very smart in today technologically linked world. That would be like going through life with only one side of your body. The only impediments that I noticed with her teaching was the fact that once a week is not nearly enough. These brilliant children should be blogging two or three times a week. The benefits would be great for children using this technology. The computer skills in processing, blogging, and being able to successfully understand and convey feelings and emotions to/from others would give these children a great leg up in the future to come. This would also open up new avenues of information that were previously closed to these students. This will also give students the chance to stay up front on what is going on with their parents,peers, and the world. I am so glad Dr. Strange showed this video and I can only hope he can get more delightful videos such as this one.

Summary Post CFT #3

The first post I done was a video that Dragonsinger had posted from Prof. Stephen Heppell. In this video he covered subjects such as Email is now for our parents, the benefits of the super class in schools, and diversify curriculum for our students. This was a very interesting if not long video, but was thoroughly enjoyable to watch

This video inspired me to go beyond the call of duty for my students. I will also like to try the super class idea that Prof Stephen had suggested because it would encompasses many children and teachers in one room. This would allow the teachers to see who needs help and then be able to give that help. Also we must begin to use new innovations such as tweeter, blogging sites, and SKYPE. We must also not be scarred to try new and different ideas. Also there are no educational secrets left in today's new technological age world. Examples of these new technologies would be information, music, and ideas and also sites such as Google, and Wikipedia. I just hope that the world accepts the changes sooner and not later.



The second post I did for Dragonsinger was a trip she took to the city of Christchurch. At this point she attended a four day conference which covered many aspects of her teaching field from learning how to use a Prometheus board to the benefits of teacher conferences. she was also able to interact with her PLN friends at this conference and to share ideas among one another. She also came away form this conference with several nice prizes that she will use for the class when she returns home.

I liked the fact that she was able to take away so much from her PLN conference. I can only hope that we as teachers are given the opportunities to interact with and get new ideas from distant educators. This also showed me the importance of the PLN's that Dr. Strange has been telling us about. The most important thing I took away was the fact, that we as educators will never stop learning new things. This more than anything is one of the main reason why I want to teach. The only other thing I want more than anything is to change a child's life "one at a time."

Additional Assignment numb. 3

I think the most important thing Sir Robinson says is the fact that our whole school process and way of thinking must be changed for the good of our children. The way it is now suppresses the child's ability to divergent thinking and doesn't foster the collaboration of group thinking. Also public schools kill the ability for children to think on their own about subjects. Because of this children are therefore pushed to think along the lines of what society wants them to think. The only thing I could think of that will not change any time soon will be the way the schools are run. Mr. Robinson says that our schools are modeled after the Industrial Revolution era and he is right. It will take major time and money to overhaul every school and school district in the nation right now and honestly we just do not have the money. EXP.. (When teachers have to buy their own tests, books, and pencils we have major problems.)

Even for us who are in college the same philosophy still applies...grades, grade levels, and assembly line degrees. College's can say they are different, but they are set up the same way and will also have to change. In my own college experiences it is the same every class I take. EXP. (Lectures, Tests, and Lectures.) This makes it very hard to really explore creativity and other avenues of learning when one is stuck in the same repeating pattern of time. This class of EDM310 is the only class that I have seen that allows us to foster our own ideas, focuses us on creativity, and allows group collaboration to a very big degree of freedom. This is what needs to be done in ALL schools. The question is WHEN will this happen 10 years, 30 years, 100 years, or 500 years. For some reason schools in the United States are the last thing to upgrade and I ask why is that?

I would begin to address the issues that Sir Robinson brings up by spending more money on our children and college students and less on big business, Congress, and Wall Street brokers. Between these three that is Millions of Dollars that could go back into our schools and help begin the necessary upgrades that the schools most desperately need. Only when the schools are liked upon the games systems, computers, and I phones that children in today's world play with, will learning begin for our children. Then there will be hardly any need for medicating our children like we see today. If I was to do a video like Sir Robinson I would love to be the idea generator. This is because I love to think of things that go against the grain. I always think out of the box no matter what PEOPLE tell me to do, and I enjoy every minute of it. This is what our children need to be doing. I think if this was done we would be delighted with the results that we would see.

Don't let them take pencils home.

I loved the sarcastic humor John Spencer uses in this blog. He was basically telling us that kids who take pencils home perform less on test than children who rely on technology like laptops, computers, and IPads. Children today use technology to get, define, and review information and pencils are a thing of the past, which our parents would use. Most parents would not be able to keep their children learning with pencils because the excitement of learning has been dwindled down into the small rubber and lead and this is not congruent for children learning today. Also the vast majority of learning is done on the internet and software programs of today. I also agree with the lower test scores statement and with what the author stated because pencils do not facilitate learning. A computer and the internet will help in today's learning environment. People must also learn to use this new technology and also get away from the days of books, pencils, and paper. Children in today's world have access to vasts amounts of information, and this information is not from a pencil. Parents and schools can still let children take pencils home, but the learning will be almost nonexistent.

Two Questions That Can Change Your Life.
This was a very fascinating video, for I have never really thought about my future in the terms of only two questions. This video also has a way of making you sit down and think about the way that one's own life has gone. The good news is that the question "What's my Sentence" has the effect of making us look at our own life and analyze it from a more critical angle than what we normally would have. This can then let us know in what direction our lives need to take, and then we can track ourselves through self reflection. My sentence would be: BY THE TIME I HAVE BEEN TEACHING FOR TEN YEARS I WILL HAVE TOUCH 500 CHILDREN'S LIVES FOR THE BETTER. The last question the video brings up "Was I better today than yesterday." This question would impact all of our lives for the better if people would only stop and think about this each and every night. I bet if people did think about that sentence each and ever day then there would not be as much trouble and sorrow in the world right now. This would then allow all of us to analyze ourselves truthfully and the best part of that is that we cannot run away from our own conscious. These two questions will impact me every day because it will make me think about the deeds that I am doing for my children. Children look up to us as teachers and if I can set a positive example hopefully some of my children will embrace the goodness of life and will try harder in school and in their own life.

An open letter to educators
This video was very informative and I am glad that Morgan Bayda showed us the movie made by Dan Brown. Dan was right on the mark when he said that "Universities must also learn to expand their educational horizons for their students." I also agree that our educational experiences have failed us in today's world. There have been many days that I have sat in classes falling asleep and wondering isn't there a easier way to get ones education. Thinking on my own education I wonder how long it will actually take our public schools and universities to adapt before they get left behind. The internet is the new university of the twenty-first century and universitie's must learn to both become more student oriented and student active in the internet schooling before they lose the pull they have with students.
Dan was also correct in the fact that the knowledge base is also falling apart and more and more people have access to information today than they did one-hundred years ago. This is not a bad thing, but the best thing ever in the whole of our history as a people. Information is power and in today's world everyone has the opportunity to be powerful in knowledge. Unlike Dan though I feel strongly against people from Dropping out of school. Schools provide the foundation that we need as a people to understand where and how we come about and were we are going from here. People must also learn to incorporate the knowledge they get from schools and Universities with new internet sites like Google, Twitter, You Tube, and Wikipedia. Only then will people begin to understand the whole picture. This makes me think of all the possibilities that I can begin to show my children when I start to teach in a few years. In the end it is up to us as teachers to nurture and support our children's push into this new technological era.

Mr. McClung essay was very well done and transmitted feelings of happiness, surprise, and understanding. It was a real pleasure to read and comment on his blog. He was telling us that we must not let ourselves get set in our ways as teachers for something will always come around and ruin our perfect lessons that we have planned. Also we must be friends to our children, for they will depend on us even if we do not think they are paying us any attention right now. It is like I have always said, we will impact children, but it will happen over time and the children will remember us later on in life when they need it the most. Also the most important thing I took away form this was the fact that we as teachers need to be more understanding of the children in our classes and to not get upset at them when they do not exceed our expectations. Communication is the most important tool for teacher and student relationships too. We must learn to put ourselves in our student's shoes. Only then can we begin to understand the way they think and act. Lastly we as teachers must continue to learn about everything around us, for how can we teach our students if we are scared and standoffish from this new technology. As Mr. McClung Stated "We work in a learning environment, so why not soak up as much as you can? We owe it to our students." A teacher who cannot keep up with the times and who doesn't care about their children should not be teaching. I say this only because so many children depend on us every day to help them over their own hurdles. Very well said Mr. McClung our students are why we are here.

We must also learn that technology is a friend and will always be here with us. Being a friend is also the way our students will perceive us. I have a good example. (My second grade teacher would go out of her way to help me and she was always taking the time to make sure everyone in our class knew and understood the subjects before we left her class every day. Even if it meant she had to stay an extra hour or two she did not care and done it with a smile.) This is what I remember about Mrs. Kelly and she displayed all the characteristics that Mr. McClung went over in his blog. She would never get upset and never got irritated even when we did not catch on as quickly as she had hoped. This is what I remember of her today and I will use the good qualities of all my entire past teacher's who have meant something to me. I can only hope that I will be able live up to the high standards of my students. I have also set goals for myself as a teacher that include making long term friendships with my children, and it will fill me with happiness to know I have changed my children's lives for the better down the road.

The Schools of Tomorrow and the technology literate teacher.

This was an amazing video and Dr. Miller is right when he says that our ideas are not just ours alone, but the whole worlds. This is the right way for us to go as a people of this planet. We must learn to embrace this new technology and get our teachers, students, and buildings set up for this wonderful new technology. Dr. Miller stated that we are in the best time of literacy, for we can read information on-line from all parts of the globe. In the past we were tied down to the libraries and books that came with them. Now our paper is the word processing and the keyboard is the new pencil for the people of the Twenty-First Century. This information can be used by billions of people worldwide and not just in on part of the globe.

When we get to our classrooms after graduation we will have the opportunity to use these new technologies for the betterment of our children. The children can show us new ways and ideas about technology while we are giving them the fundamental basics that they need to survive in this new world. Students will learn to combine video, audio, and words to create some beautiful and creative new ways of thinking. When I start teaching I want to immerse myself and my classes in this new way to look up information by giving my children projects were they put together presentations that show how information can be combined and used together.

Dr. Miller states a good point that we have the ability to transmit all ideas to everyone on the planet. This age is all about information and this is the new way of society and our children's education. Right now I am learning this new technology and I will continue to learn it well out of EDM310. This knowledge will not only help me with my teaching ability, but will improve the quality of education that I can offer my students. With the end of each day it is the children with the help of technology that will shape and mold our activities as teachers I believe and not just technology.

Video Number 2

These two student produced videos for EDM310 were done very good. If I was to do a video I would have the students all at one time run up to Dr. Strange and bombard him with questions about what they do not want to do. I would like to create a video that also would focus on the real time emotions of people's reactions and procrastinations of doing work for EDM310. I would have students dressed up in clown suits and playing games on the computers instead of taking their work seriously. I would also like to put students in a space ship flying through space ignoring everything that comes their way. Jamie and the others done a wonderful job on these videos and should be commended for the excellent job they did. The humor in the videos was also very ingenious. I bet Jamie got tired of getting up and down out of that chair while doing that video. :-)

The main points of the videos are to do one's work and do it by the date on the calendar. Also for students to not quit school because it is hard. This is very important to us, for in the real world you cannot miss work because you had to twitter someone or go to Florida to play the lottery. To miss your class and not be there for your children would be catastrophe and could result in you being fired or sued by the children's parents if something happened while you were supposed to be there and you weren't. The video also stated that teachers supposedly do not care for their students, but that is not the case. In my time as a student all my teachers have done a wonderful job of caring and taking time out to help me with my problems. The best thing I liked was the fact that most people have to hit rock bottom before they will pull themselves back up and start over. I know a great many people in my own life that have had to do this and boy it is not very pleasant. As I said earlier the videos were both well done and I loved the sarcastic tone and the, “I will do what I want do” routine that faces most college students today. EDM310 students need not fret about our class for we have Dr. Strange, the EDM310 helpline, and the three students who help us out in the lab of EDM310. We are also learning to use interesting programs like Ever Note, Delicious, Blogger, Google Squared, and You Tube to upload video and music to. In the end this class will empower us in ways we are just now beginning to see and understand.

Video Number 3

The views and opinions are very polarized on the issue of the Smart Boards in the classroom. The two blogs that were given to us really do not see any hard benefits for the Smart Boards besides them being expensive chalkboards and one of those teachers even gave his away. The smart boards need time to be able to influence the classroom, teachers, and students. I do know that from my own observations in Denton Middle School I have noticed that the boards really do not encourage much more talking than what was going on when I was in middle school back in the mid 1990's. The only advantage that I can see is they will let teachers keep massive amounts of information that will have to be erased on a regular chalkboard. Also the students can to an extent use pointers and interact a little more with the Smart Boards than with chalkboards. One of the articles stated that "Smart Boards are a vain way of buying progress." Yes that could be stated, but I look at it as a small step in the right direction. In the years to come information will be going all digital and the Smart Boards is the first step in the race of classroom evolution.

Two articles I found on the internet that talked about the advantages of the Smart Boards are http://www.teacherslovesmartboards.com/2007/09/smart-board---r.html and http://www.waukeshaschools.com/WIT/smartBoard/benefits.htm. The main points that the articles stress is the better interaction of students compared to a traditional classroom setting and how more than lessons can be used as supplemental learning for our children. Some of these are videos, pictures, and blogs of information from other people. We must remember that this is new to the class and time will begin to let more options and possibilities for our children's education come around. Whether for good or for bad this is the new way and a way that I will fully embrace once I get my own classroom.

Additional Assignment # 2 for EDM310

This video by Sugata Mitra was a lovely video for me to watch and see just how fast and wonderful children around the world can learn. I do believe that if people want to learn something bad enough they will learn to use and understand it. Children are the best at adapting and figuring out how things operate and function. Yes, children can teach themselves because they have a curious personality about them and they have each others creative ideas that they can pull on for references. First and foremost the individual must have the necessary components to teach themselves or they will not understand what they are doing. For example, one cannot build a plane without first having a schematic of what they plan to build. The computers of today act as our translators and library books that enable people to Google, Ask Jeeves, and translate any word in the world today. The Internet and computers act as wonderful pieces of technology that allow children to explore things in their own language and then put it into an answer that everyone will notice and be able to understand. Children today have a wonderful ability to learn, for that is what we as humans love to do and that is to learn new and interesting things. The desire to learn is a powerful tool for the learning process. Problems give humans a chance to try and figure out which hypothesis will work in solving our problems, also children will easily turn to each other for their opinions and insights, as a result, this will give them a great advantage in problem solving. The best way to motivate someone to learning is to give them a problem and let them figure it out the best that they can. Also let the person take their time so they can fully understand and fix that problem. I learn the best when I have a supportive person who will care about the tries that I make and who will understand that I am human and will make mistakes. The best part about learning is the journey and the finished process for me. Anyone who doesn't want to learn can learn it will take a little extra time from us teachers to properly find what the child will love to do and that will gladly work. I believe that every child wants to learn, however some just need that extra care and time put into them. I love to teach myself different languages because later on when I go to Europe I will be able to speak and understand the general populations better. I do this in the privacy and quietness of my home, so that I may concentrate on what I'm doing. A teacher if he/she is good will excite a child to learning through their actions, words, and time spent with a student. I had a teacher in the sixth grade that always supported me and my chess playing ability and took the time to show me what I was doing wrong and to this day she is one of my most beloved teachers that I remember. This video makes me think and appreciate the effect that only one teacher can have on a multitude of children if they are sincere and love what they do. One question about getting this technology out to these children that I have is were is the money going to come from to implement their education? And why do not more people take the time to respond and see to these children's needs?

Status Report on My PLN EDM310

My PLN is coming together slowly but surely.  I have come to rely on Google, Google Squared for the nice vast amounts of information.  I have also recently gotten on to twitter and have began to explore the vast amounts of people and places that I can tweet for information.  This is all new to me, so I am taking it easy and have already got several people that I have started to converse with.  I also use Ever Note for any note taking that I use on the internet.  You Tube is also a decent place for older video's of World War Two and videos of the educators that Dr. Strange has showed us.  Here are some of the other places I also am Tweeting on Ted Talks, Neil Tyson, and Smart Teachers.  I hope that as my schooling gets more detailed in the years to come I will get more and more intuned with this new technology.  I thank Dr. Strange for these wonder ideas that he gives us students and the support he gives us.

Phillip's Blog Post number 7 for EDM310

This was a wonderful video on Randy Pausch.  He covered not only himself, but his feelings on professors, friends, and students.   He believed in the power of ourselves especially when others do not believe in us.  At the time of this video he had roughly six months to live because of several brain tumors.  He was a very cheerful and happy child and appeared that way as a adult too.  Randy had several goals in life some he got, some he had to settle on, and others he quiet didn't fully get to achieve.  This however did not slow him down or keep him from being the best person he could possibly be in life.  Randy gave a hundred and twenty percent on his life and jobs and this was very useful for him in getting him where he needed to be in life.

As teachers we have the power to influence our children in subtle and various ways from teaching them the fundamentals, to playing well with others, to not letting our set backs or brick walls as Randy put it in life keep us from accomplishing what we need to do.  We will have the power to give our children the opportunities to enjoy life, set goals, and understand each others feelings and dreams.  This more than anything is what we will really be doing when we are teaching.  Working hard in the long run is the best goal that we can set for our selves in life for most things do not come to us overnight and they generally take time as Randy also stated.


Randy taught me to take the time with my students and get to know them and enjoy their company.  The best thing of all that the students will do is surprise us from time to time if we let them do what they love. Take chances with people and they will generally reward you with good things over time and you never lose faith in your abilities as both a teacher and a learner.  The best message I took away from this was the fact that we must be willing to help all of our children.  This will be the only way that they will learn is if we take the time to give them the personal attention that they need.  We must also turn to others for guidance and support when we need it.  The most important thing we must have also is attitude, for we can either be a Tigger or an Eore' for the glass will either be half empty or half full and all of that is our point of view on things.



We must learn to fully enjoy and support our students most creative ideas and goals, for we are the people that they rely on to teach and help them understand.  We must teach children to respect each other feelings, not to complain that things do not go their way, also to work very hard at what they do, and have fun each and every day of their lives.  I learned that these things can be done if we just put our whole heart and soul into our children and do what needs to be done for them.  This will be our legacy as teachers to leave a just and fulling child or children who can look back and see the wonderful life they have had thanks to a caring and thoughtful teacher.

Summary Comment for Teacher number 2 EDM310

In the first video There Is Nothing On The Internet That Is Not In Your Heart.  The Intrepid Teacher was concerned about what people have been saying about the internet.  He said that most people think the internet was bad and that not much good came from it.  The Intrepid Teacher then pointed out the good facts.  These are that the internet allows him and others to communicate with people all over the world, make friends, and have people who listen to and understand what he says.  He also stated that the internet is what we put into it and some people will chose to put hateful and harmful things on the internet because that is who they are and that there is always good in things along with the bad things in life and on the internet.  His Second blog School Should Not Be Considered Work  covers the blog of a student who wants to better herself in school, but she is writing as though she is lost and not fully thinking her ideas through.  He tries to tell her/us that school is what we make it and that it is up to us to get the most out of our everyday school lives.  He goes on to tell us that schools are there to show us how to acquire our knowledge and information and not just make us learn what they want us to know.  The one thing I like was the fact that most people love to learn for the sake of learning and that is very much true.  When we can learn over our whole life doors are always opened for us then and only then can we make learning a life long enjoyable dream.



I totally agreed with Intrepid Teachers point of view on the first blog and what he said was the truth.  It is easier for us to say there is too much violence, drugs, and sex and overlook the fact that it takes the more enlighten person to see the good that the internet has brought us in our lives today.  The internet is a tool that we as humans can use to better ourselves and our children not only now, but for years to come.  The things I love about the internet are the friendships, closeness, and wealth of information that come from this companion.  The second video also hit home with me and made me think of my own school age days in high school. Looking back I remember that we all learn differently and some will learn faster than others, but that doesn't mean we are dumb or stupid.  We should all apply ourselves to a life of learning, but sadly most people do not do this and are left out of the loop as they say.  Also the most important thing we tend to forget is that teachers spend all their time trying to be nice, helpful, and respectful to students, for this is why we are there for our students in my opionin and to help them learn will only enable them to accomplish great thing in life and help them to be even better learners.  Also students learn by doing and we should let the students learn and figure out how they want to learn.  To do this will only let our children accomplish greater things in life.

Video 1
The Schools of Tomorrow and the Technology Literate Teacher was a very interesting video for me to watch.  The facts are that the future I've seen on this video will be here very soon and we must be ready for it.  This would be a very interesting way to learn.  However this will take a great deal of time, money, and cooperation from parents and schools if this is to succeed.  I wonder though if it will succeed, for its sake I hope so.  If this does take off and do well the learning values from this would be astronomical in helping our students learn out of the classroom.
The one thing that worries me about this is that most people still do not have computers or the internet, so how can they get this new incite.  This would also allow students to be at home during the day and most parents cannot be there to watch them.  The only way for this to really take off would be for students to do their work at the library or computer labs in the school they go to.  Also opinions are not the facts and we have got tread very carefully when it comes to getting the right information or we will get just a bunch of white noise.  Now the points I love are the huge sources of information that one would have at their disposal.  This includes Google, friends on twitter, and sites like Blogger dot com.  The student can do all this from the comfort of his/her own environment and do it right.
The teacher still is the chain that holds our links together.  With out teachers the students would not know what they were doing and why.  This learning ability also I think would give the teachers a more one on one opportunity with the children than would otherwise have been done in the regular class room environment.  Even with technology going the way it is going we will still need to rely on teachers for their inputs and skills when it comes to helping our children get the most out of this new information and who knows maybe our children will teach us a thing or two.

Video 2

This seventh graders PLN was amazing and well thought out.  The way she keeps her school work and her social blogs separate is very ingenious.  This seventh grader is very smart for taking her time in doing her work and accepting responsibility for her work.  Most adults I've seen still cannot take responsibility for their work.  I see she uses Delicious, You Tube, Pocket Tanks Essay, and Google.  She also keeps her work organized by what she is doing and this helps her find her information very quickly when she needs it.  My PLN is setup pretty much the same way except that I rely heavily on Google, Google Squared, and You Tube for my videos on history.  I also can rely on blogging sites for some information on what I need, but blogging is mainly opinions and not facts.  The note taking ability of Ever note is very cool and like the seventh grader said this allows me to take notes on what I have seen on the web and want to keep.  I hope in the future most people will come to embrace this wonderful technology and rely on the good information that can come from it.

 This was a very interesting video for me to watch by Dr. Wesch.  The points that he covers were very entertaining and serious at the same time.  For example he stated that today's college students are not very social and active participants in the classrooms.  The most interesting fact for me was that most people feel like the one in a million in a society that really doesn't want to know us, for who we are.  Society builds up big dreams for just about all of us and then we cannot even achieve those dreams, no wonder people feel so left out and separated from others.
 I can personally relate to how most people must feel about being separated in today world, for my family isn't one for staying in touch. Or even saying how are you doing?  Living is just one part of life that I have pushed and pushed to succeed in.  I have had no help from the world outside, so I use the mind I have and do what must be done to better myself.  Most people like to withdraw into the world of a camera and tell their problems to an army of people who are not even in front of them.  That is the sad part that most people feel more comfortable talking to strangers about their feelings than to their friends or relatives.  The college experiences for me are also that way, for most people in college are standoffish and do not talk too much, they just talk and text on cell phones.  I think it is messed up when people cannot even rely on one another for help and support.  Instead we rely on what TV tells us and what kind of face we will put on today for other people to see what we want them to see. Most college time and work now runs around the uses of the computer and sites like You Tube and Google Now when I start teaching I will tap into the creative and understanding parts of my children in the classroom. Most of these children need support and a caring and understanding person and they can succeed in school and possibly life.  We must get our children to love one another for who they are and not what society tells us to love about others.  We must help and nurture each other for all we have in the end is each other.  Like the two gentlemen at the end of the video we must stand out and be different and get back in touch with our humanity and stop being trapped inside of ourselves.
We owe not only our children at school this, but our own children at home.  We as teachers can do some good in getting our children to talk to us instead of a video camera.  We have the responsibility to treat every child as if they were a million dollars instead of one in a million.  Only after this will people begin to change for the better.

Comment for Kids Summery 1

This summery post is about Daniel a student at the Noel Elementary School.  Daniel was telling us about the time when he misjudged a new student and was proved wrong about what he thought about this child.  Daniel went on to say that we cannot judge a person based on race, religion, national origin, or how cool he or she is.  Daniel also stated that this country was formed from immigrants and we should learn to be caring and understanding and value other peoples ways, for they could be just like us.  I thought this was very enlightened for this young man to have learned this lesson very early in life and that this out look will serve him well later on in life.  We must all remember that we all come from other back grounds and that is what makes us all different and special in our own way.



Daniel's family is a big family just like the family I'm married into right now.   He has two blue nose Pit Bulls and a York mix dog.  He loves to play several different kinds of sports ranging from Soccer, to Baseball, and Football just to name a few.  Daniel also takes great pride in his family and loves math.  I applaud Daniel and wish the best for him in his endeavors of life  and only hope that he will rely on the strength and comfort of his family and friends.  It was a pleasure being able to blog to this student at noel elementary.

Phillips EDM310 Blog Assisnment # 5

For this assignment I watched three videos covering the making and actual broadcasting of pod casts.  They were the Eagle Nest Class blog, Lang Witches Blog, and the Benefits Of Pod Cast In The Classroom.  They covered kids in the Eagle Nest Blog talking about people and places in the ancient Roman Empire days.  To being able to make and understand the importance of the class blog as an important learning tool.  I thought these podcasts were well done and very informative especially the one that was done by the third graders.  It is very nice to see that there are teachers out there who do care about what and how our children are learning.  It makes me want to do the same thing when I get my own classroom one day down the road.



I will try and fit some of the interesting back and forth conversation into my podcasts that I will do in the future.  Also this is a trial run situation for me and to know what you might mess up on will only help you and strengthen your future pod cast later on.  I will also get my whole classes in on this amazing learning tool, which can only help your students.  I also like the fact that you generally can get up to ten minutes to do what you need to and that is very awesome.  The whole reason for us to even be in school to be a teacher is the fact that we want to help and introduce new ideas such as pod casting to our classes.  I cannot wait till I graduate from college, get my own class, so I can began using these wonderful teaching techniques.

Video #1  Don't Teach Your Kids This Stuff. Please?

Dr. McLeod is an Associate Professor in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies at Iowa State University.  He has a wife and three children.  One thing that surprised me was the fact that he actually cares about the pace of our public schools advancement in technology.  The schools have a civic responsibility to our children's future and Dr. McLeod is very concerned about the majority of children not being educated by technology.  With technology changing so fast and schools lagging farther and farther behind this is only putting our children behind the eight-ball and not supporting their future life.  We cannot afford to hold our children from this new technology and I love the sarcastic point that Dr. McLeod makes.  I wonder who will be ahead in the future called life.  The person who walks the race or the person who drives a car in that same race.  This is in my opinion the same comparison that Dr. McLeod makes in his argument.

We cannot be so complacent that we allow our children's future to be bypassed to others just because we do not want to teach, learn, or understand things around us.  This is not only wrong, but a grave injustice.  We as parents and teachers should be putting this new technology to work for us not the pen, pencil, and paper.  Yes technology has its bad points, but it has more good things about it than bad things in my opinion.  We can separate the good from the bad just like we separate the right from the wrong in everyday life.  So until we get serious only a select few children will prosper and know what is needed to know in the years to come and we will only have ourselves to blame NOT them.

Video Number 2  The Ischool Initiative


This video sums up what could be a real future for our children today.  This senior needs to be applauded for taking this initiative.  The Ischool is a wonderful idea and the Itouch has got a lot of applications that can be used for the schools purpose as Travis points out.  Some of these applications are the chemical touch, the digital copy of the United States constitution, and U.S.A. presidents.  These are a few of the programs that would help our students be more productive in this new world.  It would also save sums of money as Travis pointed out on text books, paper, pencils, and graphing calculators.  One interesting fact is the importance of how this device would keep parents, teachers, and students connected at all times.  Also this Ischool would save bundles of money for school systems. So if we can get business and people on board this could be a reality of tomorrow.

The one thing we have to remember about something like this is the fact that this cannot be done over night and this will not totally take paper, pens, and books out of our schools.  Also the Itouches are expensive, so what if they get stolen, lost, or broke.  The money that was saved would be spent yet again.  Also many students still do not know how to fully use a computer, so how will they do this.  In theory I love the idea, but I do not see it happening for a very long time.  We cannot even give our children the small items they need now much less four hundred dollar Itouch pads.  How would we even train our teachers?  This would have to be a joint venture like Travis said between Apple, university's across America, and state school systems.  I agree with what Travis said and I hope that this will be our future in the years to come.

Video #3  The Lost Generation


This lost generation video sends out a very powerful statement of how and why we should not try to change things in our life.  It is sad because so many people do not try and change their lives. Instead they let their families fall apart, work take over their lives, and lose hope in themselves.  If people would only try and be more supportive this would not be the case, for people need to stand together for what is right and look after not only their best interest, but their families and friends as well.  As the young lady stated in the video yes one person can change the world.  "Their own world" and it should not matter what society tell us, for our society does not have our best interest in mind.  Society is always telling us negative things about each other and instead of things that can bring us closer together.

Now as teachers we can add a dent to what society wants us to do.  We must learn to put our children's needs first and see to their well being and safety.  Until we learn how to cope and deal with the truths in life we will always be miserable and lonely, families will fall apart, and work will consume us.  We must learn to go against what society wants and not go with the flow of others.. At least not all the time.  We must focus on one child at a time and when they grow up they will in turn focus on their children and take the time to do what is right by their family.  This process happens by our actions, words, and deeds in life and only we can change and influence not only our children, but others around us.  We have the responsibility to do this and must not fail ourselves.  In the end it is we who chose whether or not to embark on this journey called life.

Video #4  Virtual Choir

This was a awesome video and by far the best one I have seen so far in EDM 310.  This blows my mind how this was done and also the fact that these people have never even seen each other.  What about their practicing?   Were do they live?  These are just a few of the many questions I have about this.  Also thanks to Jennifer for finding this for us.  If this is a taste of what the future classroom is then I must say that I am impressed.  Just think no more missing school because your car broke down or because you over slept.  Just get up turn on your computer and boom there is your class.  This makes me want to see what that whole pie will look like once we get this new technology going.  This is what we will be doing in the future and it is with great anticipation that I want to see it come to fruition.  I also hope that others will embrace this new and wonderful technology.

Additional assignment #1

The educational implications are awesome for students and teachers. This is a fountain of information at one place, and the other thing about Google squared is that you can add even more information to the search thereby increasing your information that you receive on the subject. This will come in handy for students who do reports or charts to compare different areas of the world. Teachers can use this to pull vast amounts of information to show the class at one time instead of one slide at a time, which saves a lot of time for the busy teachers. This is very interesting and I will definitely use this when I start teaching. Wolf Ram Alpha is also very good and brilliant, for it has even more amounts of information than does Google Squared. I wish I had this kind of information at my finger tips in high school, for if I had my grades would have been better. This is the tools that we as educators must learn to embrace if we are to succeed at helping our students learn. These tools offer so much help, so to turn our backs on these tools would be a injustice to our children. I can say that since Dr. Strange introduced me to Google Squared and Wolf Ram Alpha I will be teaching and relying on these tools for many years to come. To answer Dr. Stranges questions I did not know about neither of these wonderful programs before I did this assignment.

I have learned that information is fluid and just because someone says something that does not make it so. It always good to think on what we have seen and heard. Generally statistics are overlooked because people do not take the time to actually think on the information that is being presented, so the real numbers get lost. This taught me to be more cautious at what I am looking at when I see and hear statistics given to me at any given time. Numbers are not to be ignored, but studied very carefully, for we can miss a large amount of information if we do not see the whole picture. This has not changed my opinion on "Did You Know!", for information is always changing and it is up to us to keep on top of this new wave of information that we must ride every day of our lives.

C4T Summery 1

The first review will be on the "Dang! I just missed it." Mr Warlick was stating how important we watch what and how we say things, for people can be mislead to think of something else that was not even the case. A teacher was talking about how one could see mars as plane as day in the sky as one would see the moon, but she hinted only at the use of a 75mm powered telescope. This as a result convinced the people to look up in the night sky to see mars, but low and behold no planet. With just a little more time and attention to what we say things like this could be avoided.

The second review would be on "Technology for 21st century Learning: Part 2." Mr Warlick was saying should we reli on new technology to help us out in our schools? Even though the new technology is great it is not really designed for the school learning environment that we our used to. Most of the new technology doesn't even have programs hardly for the looking up and functionality of a classroom setting. He also believed that today we must communicate with more than words, so this brings in the pictures, sounds, and motion that we get with this new technology.

We as people can overlook the simplest mistakes, for it is natural the way we talk and perceive things. We must learn to watch our sentences more carefully and if not we could be drawn into incorrect facts and not what we need. This will only slow us up in life especially with all the information on line now a days. We must learn to take our time and to provide correct and timely information for our children and peers.

We love new technology, but there is still nothing like the old way of teaching even though today we have a greater source of information than we did say even ten years ago. New technologies even though they can do lots of things still fall short of being using in the classroom setting. This is due to the fact that they have very few programs that will allow them to be used to help educate our children. We as teachers must insist that our new technology uses programs that can enrich the lives of not only our children, but of us teachers as well. One day technology will be in the class full time, but till then we must watch and pick out what will be used in the classroom setting.

Video Number one.

This video does a real good job of capturing the college experiences for a lot of young adults who are in colleges around the nation right now. These young adults told the facts and stated what was important to them and what is really going on right now in colleges. College kids are worried from not sleeping enough, to talking on face book, to being in debt after school, and a multitude of other things. I feel with the students that think most of the things we learn in school do not apply to us in the outside world, for things in school are totally different than being in the real world were there is disease, war, hunger, and natural disasters.

College is a controlled environment were information and learning is done at a state level and lessons and test are given to see what we know according to the state requirements, for what we need to make it in the outside world. The reality is different and most jobs that we go to college for do not exist yet, or do not really use what is on our degree plan. Lots of people think of college as a way to get free money and do not try to get a better education, so they come out worse than the people who do try and make good grades. I wish this video could be shown on the national news, for this would turn some heads and open some eyes to what is really going on in our colleges today.

It's not about technology

This was a very enlightened teacher and I agreed with what she said hands down. Most teachers in today's school systems look at this as a job and do not take the time to help our children, and as a result, some of our children do not succeed like they could have had the teacher only put just that little extra time into their work with them. Also we must find ways to keep our children coming back to school. It is up to us to keep challenging them with new and creative ways to learn. We must remember that we are their salvation and for some their only hope.

Also just because we graduate college and begin teaching we also are learning and must continue to learn all we can, for if we do not know our children will not know. The last thing I want to tell a child is that I do not know what he/she is talking about. Teachers generally have a great deal of technology to assist them with teaching their students, but very few teachers rely on their computers, the internet, or blogs to help out with class work and activities. This end result is a student or students that have been left behind and they will not contribute what they can to society, because they were not given the chance to achieve.

Is it okay to be a technology illiterate teacher

In today's world of fast changing technology I wholly agree with what Mr. Fisch stated about the teachers needing at least some technological skills. What we do is and will impact the children who's lives we touch right now and to not train our teachers would be a catastrophe. Mr. Fisch said it right on the nose when he stated that, a teacher who does not want to learn is equivalent to a person thirty or forty years ago who could not read or write. In my opinion this is a very scary thought and I would not want a teacher who was not qualified to teach teaching my children about things that they themselves do not understand. This would make it hard for teachers to teach children things that they needed right now and in the future.

I also agree with the holding of technology literate administrators and teachers accountable for what and how a child is thought in school, and also teachers should not get so complacent that they do not want to further their knowledge and understanding of what is evolving right under their noses. Also computers have been around for over 30 years as Mr. Fisch stated, but we still act like it is a new technology, but we all know it is not a new technology, and also the internet has been around since the mid nineteen nineties. I believe it is about time that we get serious about educating our teachers, for without this stable foundation how can our children learn and grow into prosperous adults that can not only read and write, but know and understand computers.

I would had never imagined that this many applications for IPhone, new twitter accounts that were created, emails sent globally could increase this fast. I tend to think in my own little world and not about these numbers. It is hard to imagine that this goes on every minute of every day. We tend not to think on this and this is what we really need to be thinking on. If we would think about how our technology explodes exponentially we could prepare a lot more than what we do and with this I fault our states and schools for failing us. Without there support our teachers cannot get the training and education that they need to help our children keep up with these vast and fast increasing numbers.
